Learning What Happened (Amy/Cecillia/Sheriff Patterson/Simon)

While left with thoughts of Vladimir, Syerren, and Simon as to how their night out was, Amy finished grooming herself then went across the way to check on young Reginald. Smiling seeing he was awake, she picked him up hearing he gestured for food. Laughing slightly stroking his growing dark curls, Amy moved downstairs seeing Cecillia in the drawing room. Releasing Reginald she looked smiling at her, “Morning Cecillia; hope your baby hasn’t been keeping you up.” Laughing slightly from her comment Amy glanced out the window then back to her, “You didn’t perchance have a talk with your husband about the boy’s outing last night? I tried talking to Vladimir and Syerren about it but they were anything but social, like they usually are."

Looking up as Amy entered, Cecillia then shook her head no at the question. "No, he really just went straight to be when he came home. I think he was a little drunk so it probably wouldn't have done much good to ask him anyway," Cecillia laughed, standing. "I suppose that no news is good news though, so let's hope that they didn't go on a murdering spree or something last night. The last thing we need is the sheriff to come knocking on our door . . ."

Getting a sudden chill surround her when Cecillia mentioned such activity, Amy passed the thought and looked back down a Reginald, “Well I’ve better get this one something to eat.” She glanced at Cecillia prepared to ask her if she wanted anything soon found her body shift back towards the window, glaring out feeling her heart sink as none other then a patrolman’s car came. “Oh dear God.” She muttered glancing back at Cecillia. “You’re guess might have been correct.” Feeling almost sick while not even wanting to speak with the sheriff, Amy held herself as there was a firm knock. Looking back towards Cecillia, she gave in and opened it. “Sheriff, what . . . what brings you here? I trust everything is well?”

Sheriff Patterson had been out a good part of the night with his deputies trying to put pieces together on a wreck just outside of town. The vehicle in question had been ran into a tree at what looked like a high rate of speed, the front end completely bent with doors missing and windows shattered, yet asides from a large blood stain on the passenger side seat, no remains were found. Baffled how anyone could merely walk away from such an event, he had been even more stunned to find that the car in question even belonged to one Simon Smith out at the Old House on the Collins Estate.

Arriving now the next morning, he awkwardly stood at the door as Amy greeted him, wishing that he didn't have to go through this process with such nice people. "Morning Mrs Armâge," he spoke, stepping inside. "I was wondering if I might have a word with Mr Smith. It's nothing to worry about; I just have a few questions to ask him regarding an incident that occurred last night."

An . . . an incident?” Amy spoke hardly understanding what the sheriff was saying. Nodding by his command, she let him inside, then closed the door. “I must tell you I’ve known little of what had occurred . . . I’m sure he could provide you with a clear understanding.” Moving towards the drawing room, Amy saw Cecillia and questioned, “Cecillia, the Sheriff Patterson is here to speak with Simon. Have you seen him?” Seeing a startled look in her eye, Amy moved the hall after being told of his where about then called for Simon, all the while wondering too what had occurred.

Downstairs in the study, inadvertently hiding out from his previous night's adventure, Simon cringed as he heard his name being called out by Amy. Knowing that he couldn't hide out any longer, he stood, going to the door just as it opened. Hearing that the Sheriff was here to speak with him, Simon nodded, then stepping in front led the way back into the drawing room. "Ah,Sheriff Patterson, what a pleasure," Simon grinned, going and shaking the man's hand. "I hear that you had a few questions to ask me?"

Patterson, nodding, looked around the room at Amy and Cecillia, then back to Simon. "Yes, in fact Mr. Smith, I wanted to ask you about your car." "My car?" Simon questioned, trying to look dumbfounded. "Well yes, you see last night, your car was found impaled to a tree with no one around at the scene." Feeling his body tense up to the point where he could hardly stand it, Simon nodded. "Is that . . . so." "Yes. Also, there was a blood stain on the passenger side seat that we hoped could lead us in a direction, but didn't." Patterson, noticing how uncomfortable this made Simon, took a step back. "Listen, I'm sorry if this is all news to you, but something like this just can't be left alone for too long; I'm sure you understand." "Certainly . . ." Simon nodded, then glancing towards Amy and Cecillia, unsure what to say.

Listening with Cecillia the details of what occurred last night, Amy felt that Simon was hiding something; all the while knowing there was a blood stain made it worse. Shaking her head then putting pressure on it she did her best to understand what was going on. “So exactly what does all of this mean? Someone stole Simon’s car? I know he and my husband and his brother were out last night but an accident was never mentioned.” “Is your husband and brother-in-law around Mrs. Armâge, so they might account for this?” Patterson asked. Shrugging looking to Simon and Cecillia, “the two are away in Bangor working, sheriff; however, will be here later tonight. I . . . don’t know what else I could tell you.”

Sighing, Patterson rubbed his neck, glaring at Simon. "So am I guessing that you don't have anything to say about how your car ended up smashed into that tree," he questioned. "No. I have no idea Sheriff. You can take a look at me if you want, but you will find that, asides from a headache, I am in excellent condition, which, from the sounds of my car, wouldn't be the case if I had been in a wreck." "No . . . I guess not," he spoke, grinning slightly. "Well, I'll just stop back by later this evening to have another word. I'm sorry to have bothered you all right now." "Not a problem," Simon smiled, shaking Patterson's hand once again then leading him towards the door. "And thank you for stopping by regarding my vehicle. Funny thing . . . I never knew it was missing." Leaving off with that, Patterson left.

As Amy guided the sheriff out knowing it wouldn’t be the end of him, she closed that then glared back towards Simon. “So . . . you boys had a lot of fun last night didn’t you? I seem to remember now that you three left with a car but then came back without it.” Seeing Cecillia too was just as eager to get the bottom of the mystery, Amy spoke crossing her arms. “Shall you tell us Mr. Smith what happened or shall your wife and I wring it out of you. What did three respectable gentlemen, two of which can’t drink, do to your car and what was this talk of the blood?”

Crossing his arms, Simon sternly stood his ground. "I'm not answering any questions regarding anything of the such," he spoke to Amy and Cecillia. "You can question me all you want, but I'm not speaking . . . not until Vladimir and Syerren are awake." Seeing dismay in his wife's eyes, Simon sighed. "I'll be upstairs in the library," he spoke, quickly disappearing then from the room. Cecillia, upset now more than ever that Simon had in fact played a very big game of lying, stood beside Amy. "He's hiding everything and going to get himself into trouble," she sighed, feeling guilty.

Turning away when Simon left, Amy sighed deeply then looked towards Cecillia seeing she was quite troubled. Wrapping her arms around her while comforting her, she glared up stairs then shrugged, “I don't understand any of this. Why must he be of secret? Can’t they all see we want to help?” Looking down at Cecillia, Amy continued, “Try not to worry dear; everything will work out. Even if Simon somehow got into trouble, we’ll make sure nothing happens to him.” Hearing soon Reginald call to her, Amy smiled, “Come on let’s not thing about this and enjoy our day.” Seeing she agreed, the two left into the hall, waiting the coming night.
