The Weeping Widow (Cecillia/Carolyn) Empty The Weeping Widow (Cecillia/Carolyn)

It was near midnight as Cecillia sat in her bed trying to concentrate on a book she had taken from the study downstairs. Outside, the wind was whistling as an intense storm stirred up. The constant crack of glass rattling thunder had Cecillia on the edge of her wits, and she could tell that this was one night that she was actually scared of one of Collinport's many storms.

Perhaps it was the strange book she was in the midst of, or perhaps it was the flicker of her bedside lamp. Either way, she had a certain discomfort about her and didn't know how much more she could take. In the middle of a rather dull chapter, she nearly drifted off; however, the persistent thunder brought her back to real time.

Laying the book aside, she got up and walked over to the window. Nearing it, a bolt of lightening shown through and an unfamiliar sound caught her ear. The noise was spine tingling but brief, so she thought it was only her imagination, or the wind. However, right as she was about to shrug it off, she heard it again.

Carolyn had had quite an intriguing day, but was all burnt out from it. Much unlike herself, she had decided to turn in very early, as she was quite excited about the following day, as she had a date in town with a guy she had just met.

She hadn't really noticed the storm brewing up outside until she actually laid down to try and sleep. Living at Collinwood all her life, Carolyn had become extremely use to storms like this, so she had no trouble falling into a near sleep like state within minutes. However, her sleep was short lived, as not long after, an unmistakable sound brought her back wide awake.

She laid in bed and listened very carefully for the sound again. Not long did she wait, as it sounded again, this time much more recognizable then the last time. Her blood chilled as she realized what she seemed to be hearing. Carolyn knew all the legends that had been passed down to her, and she was completely sure that she was hearing a Weeping Widow from Widows Hill, and it frightened her.

Cecillia wasn't one to get so scared in situations such as this, but for some reason she was very scared, and she didn't know what to do. It wasn't that she was scared that something bad was going to happen, it was just the thought of an unknown noise out in the darkness.

All of a sudden, Cecillia got either the best, or most stupid, idea. For no reason in particular, she felt the desire to go against all odds and track out into the darkness, the unknown. She realized that it was in fact probably an extremely thoughtless thing to do, but wanted very much to add yet a little more thrill to her never dull life.

Getting dressed in warm clothes, she grabbed the best jacket she had and a pair of boots, and quietly left her room and headed towards downstairs. She was unsure if anyone would still be up, but was willing to take the risk to find out. The worst thing that could happen, she figured, was to be sent back up to bed.

Almost near the end of the upstairs hall, she unknowingly stepped upon an unlucky floorboard, sending a loud creaking sound up into the night. Without hesitation, Cecillia quickly walked forward, opening the door to the stairs and walked through. The foyer was dark, so she had no chance of being caught leaving.

Putting on her boots and fastening her jacket, Cecillia carefully opened the front door and stepped out into the stormy night. She realized that this was probably a great mistake, but in the scheme of things, didn't really care.

Carolyn had come to the realization that Cecillia would probably be a little frightened or just curious if she was still awake and heard the noise, so she decided that she better go and inform her. Bringing herself to get up out of her comfortable bed, Carolyn reached for a nearby pair of slippers and headed towards her bedroom door. Just as her hand grasped the knob, a loud creak from the hall wall pierced the otherwise near quietness.

Carolyn paused for a moment, and then realized that obviously someone else had either been awakened by the sound. As she opened her bedroom door and stepped out into the hall, she thought that out of the corner of her eye she saw someone pass through the door to downstairs, but just shrugged it off. She walked down the hall and stood outside Cecillia's door.

Not knowing if she should knock or just go in, Carolyn just stood there for a bit. She listened through the door but heard nothing. Guessing that Cecillia probably wouldn't mind if she was still awake, Carolyn cracked the door and looked in. Seeing that a light was still on, Carolyn opened the door further.

Standing inside the door frame, Carolyn glanced around the room. Finding only an empty unmade bed where one had recently been, she began to panic slightly. Carolyn then realized that she probably had seen someone going downstairs; Cecillia was probably headed towards yet another one of her adventures, and Carolyn was destined to stop it before it happened.

Running back to her room, Carolyn grabbed a coat and a pair of shoes, then quickly made her way back out. Just as she opened the door leading to the foyer, she caught a glimpse of the front door quietly shut. Nearly falling down the stairs, Carolyn made fast work of getting out into the stormy night herself.

Once outside, Cecillia had the sudden feeling that she had been seen. She began to ponder if she was doing the right thing. The cons definitely overruled the pros, but Cecillia had her heart set on finding out a Collinwood legend by herself, as she set out into the harsh night.

Realizing that it was a great mistake to not have a light on her, Cecillia stumbled through the darkness of the night. Had it not been for the moon and the lightening, she wouldn't have been able to move at all. Cecillia didn't know where she was headed, but something inside her compelled her in a distinct path: towards Widow's Hill.

Her heart started to pound as Cecillia thought that she heard someone or something behind her. Being in such a situation before, she knew that running was not the thing to do. Trying to stay calm, she trudged further ahead, as the nasty storm pounded its anger against her.

Nearing Widow's Hill from the sound of it, Cecillia heard the noise yet again. This time it was very much more loud and distinguishable. Stopping to listen more clearly, Cecillia realized that it sounded like that of a person crying.

As she neared the edge of the cliff, the sound of the water beneath could clearly be heard, though not very well seen. It sounded brutal, much like the night storm. Cecillia jumped, as she once again heard the noise. She backed away from the edge a few feet, and just stood, staring out into the night. She wanted very much to leave, but something was keeping her from leaving.

Carolyn made quick work of navigating in the dark, stormy night. She knew the way very well, light or dark. Not far off in the distance ahead, she thought she could hear whom she hoped and thought to be Cecillia. Carolyn tried to be as quiet as possible, as she didn't want to unintentionally alarm Cecillia into thinking that some prowler was behind her.

The weeping widows sounded again, sending an unexpected chill through Carolyn. Knowing that Cecillia must be extremely curious, Carolyn couldn't pass up the behavior for anything less than something that David would pull. However, she didn't want to cause Cecillia any unnecessary punishment in the near future, so she hoped that she could catch up to her before anything unfortunate could possibly happen.

As she came near to Widow's Hill, a beam of lightening flashed, and Carolyn could barely make out the silhouette of someone standing near the edge. She didn't know how to properly confront the situation, so she stopped to think.

Just as Carolyn was getting ready to move forward and speak, the figure ahead moved forward, nearing the edge of the cliff. Beginning to enter a state of panic, Carolyn moved closer, and called out "Cecillia". Shocked, the person just feet away turned around, to face Carolyn, and then started to tremble.

Carolyn could play out what was going to happen before it even happened. She outstretched her arm, just as the alarmed body of Cecillia started to lose balance, nearing the edge.

As Cecillia stood facing Carolyn on the edge, something inside her still, involuntarily made her body lose balance. Cecillia was genuinely scared for her life, and couldn't do anything about it. She wanted very much to grab Carolyn's hand. She wanted very much to move off the edge. She wanted very much to of never stepped foot in the night.

Just as her body began to fall into the icy ocean water below, a strong embrace caught her, bringing her back to life again. Cecillia stared up a Carolyn, beginning to emotionally and physically break down. Realizing how close to death she had just in fact come was a brutal thought to attempt to forget.

The long walk back to Collinwood was filled with high emotions and low self esteem. Cecillia knew she was in for it bad this time, and couldn't bare the thought. This was just another attempt at finding out the secretes of Collinwood, yet it had again made a turn for the worse. Like every other time since she had arrived, every step towards a truth, had been met with a life risking experience.
