Sunlight glistened through the waving trees while the ocean waves were heard crashing at a nearby shore. When arriving at Eagle Hill Cemetery, Maggie close behind Joe and Carolyn, continued to be concerned of what to expect if they find what they are looking for. “The cemetery appears so different during the day.” She meandered around trying to find the tombstone. “What was her name again?”

It'd been a while since Carolyn had been at the cemetery, but it was much like she had remembered. A few members of her ancestors were buried here in a mausoleum, but she'd always been too scared to get close to it, even now that she wasn't a little child anymore. She predicted that they'd be tracking through some very poorly marked and maintained grave stones, but wasn't completely sure.

"Molly Devlin," Carolyn almost blurted out rudely. She then politely stated the name, and then continued on her search. "You know guys, we can look and look all day, but I think that if we really want to find this grave anytime soon, then we need to see the caretaker." Carolyn had remembered how Victoria had talked about him, and how she and Joe had met him a few times before.

Joe had decided to be a good sport and play along with the search for the grave. Actually, he recognized quite a few Collinsport family names here. There seemed to be no order; there were new graves mixed in with old. "Hmmm....Peter Bradford, that looks like a really old one," he said.

After a few moments Joe spotted the Collins mausoleum. "You know, I've wondered why the Collins family built that mausoleum all the way out here at Eagle Hill." Then he remembered Carolyn was with them and quickly changed the subject. "Oh, I see.....here's Josette Collins....I've heard legends about her."

They continued to look. Joe wondered what he was going to say if someone asked him what he'd done on his day off. "That's a good idea Carolyn," Joe said in response to Carolyn's suggestion of finding the caretaker. "Is that him over there? There's an old gentleman beside that tree....it is him. Gosh, he looked that old already when I was a little kid. He doesn't look too pleased that we're here."

Maggie continued the search of the grave, while doing so, she was beginning to have an idea that we shouldn’t be here when they came up to the caretaker. He was a frail and superstitious old man who knew of the happenings and legions of Collinsport.

“What…what are you doing here? What do you want,” the caretaker said abruptly. Please we are looking for a grave,” Maggie said, her name is Molly Devlin.”

Joe was thinking that the caretaker must be about one hundred and ten years old. He seemed dazed and a bit frightened. Then his pride seemed to take over; he must have known where every grave in the cemetery was.

He told them they wouldn't find her in the regular part of the cemetery. She was in a special section in the back corner where criminals, witches and suicides were buried. He pointed in the direction of it.

"Great," thought Joe, "we're not just looking for a ghost; we're looking for one who was a witch, suicide or criminal."

As if he could read Joe's mind, or at least the look on his face, the shaky old man told him that Molly Devlin was a suicide who had jumped off a cliff near Collinwood. Joe knew it wasn't off Widow's Hill. He'd heard all those legends. He thanked the caretaker, said they'd be careful and looked at Maggie and Carolyn to see if they were still up to searching.

Getting Kind of excited, but worried in a way too, Carolyn followed the others in the direction of Molly's grave. She wasn't exactly sure what they were going to do once they got there, but guessed that they'd figure that out once they found the grave.

They arrived at the correct part of the cemetery and started looking around. "Anyone see it yet," asked Carolyn. She continued browsing through all the new and old tomb stones, some of which you couldn't even read the names on.

Once entering the forgotten part of the cemetery, Maggie finds herself in a state of fear. She couldn’t control it. She carefully holds up the torch, to graves that were near here. “Antoinette, Thomas Rathburn, Miranda du Val, I am not seeing it ether.” Maggie then turns to Joe, “Do you think that she would be in an unmarked grave?”
Suddenly in the shadows sounds of braking of twigs and coldness fill the cemetery

It had been a sunny day so far, with blue skies and just a few fluffy clouds. There had been birds singing in the trees, but suddenly it got very quiet as the three were looking around the more neglected corner of the cemetery. The trees had been allowed to grow taller here and there was quite a bit of brush but Joe wondered how that could account for the sudden darkness. He looked up into the sky and saw it had become dark; the sun was hidden behind huge clouds. Joe felt chilled but this was no time to back out and leave. He turned in the direction of the rustling leaves.

There was the misty form of the same young woman in last century clothes stepping out from behind a tree. Joe thought she looked determined but shy and didn't seem to want to frighten them. She stopped beside a small fallen gravestone that was covered with moss, looked at the three young people and then pointed at the grave while shaking her head no. She repeated her action and looked at them as if begging for understanding and help.

Joe then watched her kneel besides the grave and place a small piece of cloth, and a rose on it. With one last look at the three of them, she was gone.

Joe rushed forward and picked up the rose. "This flower is fresh and it's real. See this? No one can say this was our imagination." He brushed the moss and vines from the small toppled headstone to read the inscription which simply said "M. Devlin, 1824-1842". He read this aloud to Maggie and Carolyn and added, "She was really young when she died."

He stood up and asked, "What do you think she wants? What are we supposed to do?" He paused and then added, "Are you two all right?"

Maggie was petrified by the ghost that had appeared, “Iss…is it her?” She said shaking with fear and clinging to Joe. She watched as the ghost had left, Maggie stared mystified at Carolyn. She then realized that Joe had gone to where the woman was and saw gravestone we were looking for.

Maggie continued to be alert of any creature that maybe lurking behind them. “Why would she want us to come to her?” She hated the thought of anything happening to them.

"I don't think she wants to frighten us or do us any harm honey, I think she's just trying to tell us something." Joe looked at Maggie with concern. "Maybe it isn't so different from just anyone asking someone for help. Although I don't know what we could possibly do."

He picked up the small piece of cloth. "Look Maggie, it looks like a tiny baby's old fashioned gown. Someone has started to do needlework on it....it's unfinished. Have you ever seen anything like this?"

He stood up and looked at the sky again. "Now honey, there's three of us here and no one has to face this alone. The ghost doesn't seem threatening at all. It looks like the worst thing that could happen is that we'd be laughed at or told we were crazy."

Just then the birds began singing again and the clouds moved away from the sun and some light shone down through the trees. "Maggie, this one doesn't seem so bad but some of these other graves are giving me the creeps. I guess we'll take the baby gown and leave the flower. What do you think about us not telling people other than Sam and maybe Carolyn's mother?"

Carolyn was mystified by the appearance of the ghost, though now she had gotten used to it. It was the spirits actions that frightened her more than anything. Why did it leave behind all these items? What was it wanting the three of them to do? What is the significants of any of this? Carolyn simply didn't know.

"Well I must say that this is all such a shock," Carolyn said, "but I don't think we should stand around her much longer. I don't know, but something just doesn't seem right about this." She got a sudden chill and folded her arms. "I really don't think that we should go telling much of anyone else, after all, this kind of thing doesn't happen every day."

Carolyn smoothed her hair, and then turned, as if to signify to the others "lets go". She stood and waited to observe what they were going to do next.

"Yes, I'm all for getting out of here now. I see the old caretaker is over there looking at us and he's almost creepier than the ghost. I don't think she means us harm and for some reason she's picked us out to help her." Joe began making his way carefully out of the area. The ground wasn't smooth and was rather overgrown with brush and weeds.

"I'll bet this isn't the end of it. She'll keep showing up until we figure out what she wants. Sam too.....she shows herself to him." Joe frowned, "I've never been to a seance, but I know you've had a few at Collinwood Carolyn. It isn't exactly my idea of a good time but we need to take care of this so we don't keep getting spooked."

He couldn't believe that he was the one suggesting it when it had been Maggie and Carolyn who had been so interested in the sketches. "I guess if you and your dad don't mind Maggie, we could try it at your house. Carolyn would have to show us how to do it."
