PART 2: The Search (Carolyn/Elizabeth/Mrs. Johnson/Quentin) Empty PART 2: The Search (Carolyn/Elizabeth/Mrs. Johnson/Quentin)

Post  Carolyn Stoddard 27th August 2009, 16:55

Carolyn had closed the door behind her out of habit when she entered the storeroom. The room was very hot and musty and she dearly wanted to leave it. There was no lights in this particular room, but she did happen to stumble upon a few candles and matches. So, with candles and flashlight in hand, Carolyn started her search. She was especially glad that this small room had a tiny window, and that it was still a little light outside. There was no way that she was going to be able to look through all of the junk without all the light that she had.

A good amount of time had passed, and she had not found what she was looking for. Noticing that the light outside was decreasing, Carolyn figured that it'd be best to head back downstairs to meet up with her mother. With the amount of things in this room, she'd have to come back early in the morning to finish looking. "I guess I could always get David to help," she thought, "That is if mother hasn't found portrait already."

All of a sudden, one of Carolyn's candles went out. It shocked her at first, but then she figured it was probably just a draft. The got up and made her way over towards the door, just in time for another one of the candles to go out. Carolyn was starting to get nervous as she reached the door and put her hand on the knob; waiting to blow out the last candle as she left. Alarmed, she realized that the door had locked behind her, and that she was now stuck inside this room, in a section of the house where no one can hear your scream. Instinctively she started to pound on the door and twist the knob, but then realized that this was no good. Devastated, scared, and heartbroken, Carolyn shrunk to the floor by the door and attempted to get a hold of herself.

PART 2: The Search (Carolyn/Elizabeth/Mrs. Johnson/Quentin) Empty ELIZABETH STODDARD'S Reply

Post  Carolyn Stoddard 27th August 2009, 20:04

ELIZABETH STODDARD

Elizabeth had been waiting by the fire for some time now. She had already helped herself to her second glass of brandy and was starting to get a little worried. "Surely by now Carolyn should be back," she thought. Elizabeth got up and walked out to the clock in the foyer. It showed that she'd been waiting for Carolyn for almost twenty minuets now. "What on earth can be taking her so long," she mumbled to herself.

Going back into the drawing room, Elizabeth decided that she'd give Carolyn ten more minuets, and then she was going to take matters into her own hands. It wasn't like Carolyn to pull off such stunts, so it was possible that she was just caught up in her looking.

The minuets quickly passed, as Elizabeth helped herself to yet another glass of brandy. Still, Carolyn failed to show up, and it was then that Elizabeth started to worry. Not knowing where to start, she decided to go find Mrs. Johnson first. There was no need for Mrs. Johnson to be worrying what happened to everyone all of a sudden, what with dinner almost ready.

Making her way into the kitchen, Elizabeth went over to Mrs. Johnson, who was nearly startled by her sudden presence in the room. "Mrs. Johnson, I would like to have a quick word with you. It turns out that Carolyn hasn't showed up in the drawing room yet. I'm not sure if she is still upstairs in the west wing or not. When is the last time that you saw her?"

PART 2: The Search (Carolyn/Elizabeth/Mrs. Johnson/Quentin) Empty MRS. JOHNSON'S REPLY

MRS. JOHNSON

Mrs. Johnson was busy fixing the Collins' dinner when Mrs. Stoddard entered the kitchen. She wasn't used to people just barging in during preparation, so the interruption slightly startled her. "Oh, it's just you," Mrs. Johnson said, relieved that it wasn't David trying to poke around.

As Elizabeth spoke with her, Mrs. Johnson continued to stir the pots on the stove. She had a sincere respect for Mrs. Stoddard, but at the same time she hated to be disrupted from cooking and then having people snickering about burned this and overcooked that.

"I see, Mrs. Stoddard. Well, the last time that I saw Carolyn was when she came through here looking for a flashlight and that must have been almost two hours ago. I'm sorry but I haven't seen her since." Mrs. Johnson began to smell burning and immediately opened the stove. "Well, it looks like you all will be having burnt bread with your dinner tonight." Mrs. Johnson face clearly showed aggravation and she was quite disappointed. "I'm sorry I can't be of more help Mrs. Stoddard, but if you'll please excuse me, I need to get these bread into a container and finish up everything on the stove. Dinner should be ready soon."

ELIZABETH STODDARD

"I'm sorry to have disturbed your cooking, Mrs. Johnson. Since you haven't seen Carolyn around lately, then I shall leave you to your work. Oh, and I'm afraid that we might be late for dinner, if I can't get my hands on Carolyn very soon." Elizabeth turned to leave the kitchen, concerned about Mrs. Johnson, but mostly about Carolyn. "Where can she be," she thought.

Not knowing what more to do, Elizabeth grabbed herself a flashlight and made her way upstairs to the west wing. She knew that if she wanted to know where Carolyn was at, that the best way to find out would be to look for her. The task of searching the whole west wing so late was a daunting task, but she was becoming increasingly worried that something might be wrong with her daughter.

After a few minuets of crying, Carolyn finally pulled herself together and got up. "There has to be some way to get out of here," she said to herself. "There must be some way to get that door open, but how? This surely would be a nice time to be trapped somewhere with David. At least he would be able to think up something." Not knowing what she needed, Carolyn began mindlessly rummaging through boxes.

In the midst of throwing things all over, Carolyn's eyes caught something in the corner of the room. She at first though it was just a stack of boxes and clothes. At closer inspection she thought she saw a figure, and finally she realized that what she saw was a person.

Carolyn screamed at the sight and ran towards the door, tripping over spilled junk along the way. She fell heavily to the floor, gashing her knee. Yet determined, she drew herself up and threw herself at the door with all of her strength she pulled at the knob. Becoming more hysterical by the second, Carolyn began screaming and crying so much that she could no longer breathe.

Once again, Carolyn sunk to the floor, but then quickly realized why she was carrying on so in the first place. Looking up, she realized that the person had stepped closer, and shining the flashlight in its direction, she could just barely make out the face. Her heart skipped a beat as she realized that the presence in the room was that of Quentin Collins. The Quentin Collins that had died so many years before. The same Quentin Collins who she had unfortunately ran into once before.

The ghost of Quentin Collins appeared after the presence of Carolyn awoke his peace. Carolyn Stoddard had committed the unintentional crime of entering a room that for many, many years had been stalked by the spirit of Quentin Collins. And on this unlucky night, she was going to realize this.

This was not the first time that Quentin's spirit had made contact with Carolyn, and he knew this very well. As he stepped out of the ghostly darkness, his face sported his cheeky grin. He strived off of the fear that he instilled in her, and was having fun at his own little game.

ELIZABETH STODDARD

Elizabeth entered the West Wing and was greeted by all of its joys. She hadn't been in here for ages, and had forgotten just how badly run down it was. She could only imagine what Carolyn was thinking as she started searching room by room up here.

Seeings how she didn't know where on earth she would find her daughter, Elizabeth decided to just search in every room, hall, and space imaginable. She didn't want to turn this into a hour or more task, and definitely didn't want to have Mrs. Johnson all upset over spoiled dinner arrangements.

Elizabeth searched room by room, stopping every time she thought she heard a creak. Carolyn was all that occupied her mind, which made it harder for her to concentrate at the task at hand. Attempting to get a hold of herself, Elizabeth continued searching room by room, making positive progress.

Carolyn's hysteria had gotten the best of her, and she found herself completely helpless on the floor. Thoughts of danger did not register in her mind, only thoughts of fear. She kept the light shown at the spirit, but couldn't bring herself to look at him.

The spirit of Quentin stepped on step closer to Carolyn, causing her to pull herself closer to the wall, as if she was going to be further away. Thoughts of why this was happening to her started to enter her mind, but being under so much traumatic stress greatly compromised any logical thinking.

"What do you want," Carolyn managed to say to Quentin, though she was sure he probably wouldn't answer; he didn't answer her the last time she asked such a question. Carolyn pulled herself up onto her feet, while not taking her eyes off of the ghost. She then repeated her question, but in a more hostile tone.

Once again, the ghost of Quentin just stared and smiled. Upon Carolyn's sudden remarks, the ghost bellowed a hefty laugh. Eyes wide, he edged even closer to Carolyn. So far, he was winning at his own game, and he had every plan to keep it that away.

Quentin reached into his pocket, and pulled out a small item. I sparkled in the beam of light that was being shown on it. He outstretched his arm and held the item out in front of Carolyn. Insisting that she take it, he stepped once again, one step closer.

Carolyn was becoming increasingly terrified every time the spirit stepped closer to her. She was pressed up against the wall as much as possible, and was distressed that there was no way to get out of the room. She prayed that someone was looking for her, but the thought of no one looking was all too real.

When Quentin gestured for her to take the item in his hand, Carolyn didn't know what to do. She didn't want to have any contact or anything to do with the spirit, but at the same time she didn't want him to come any closer. She had managed to draw herself together enough to actually reach out her hand and retrieve the item. Holding it closer to her face, she realized that it was a necklace with a pentagram on it. Confused, Carolyn looked up at the ghost, but realized that he was gone.

PART 2: The Search (Carolyn/Elizabeth/Mrs. Johnson/Quentin) Empty ELIZABETH STODDARD'S REPLY

Post  Carolyn Stoddard 29th August 2009, 08:54

ELIZABETH STODDARD

Elizabeth was in the midst of searching a larger room, when she thought that she heard a laugh in the distance. "Carolyn," she yelled, but heard no reply. Not knowing what to think, Elizabeth passed it off as her imagine and continued looking around the room she was in, before exiting the room and moving further down the hallway.

She was worried even more, because she hadn't even seen any signs of Carolyn's presence in any of the rooms so far. "If she looked through these rooms," Elizabeth thought, "Then she must have been careful not to displace anything. As worried as a mother with a lost child could possibly be, she barged into more and more lifeless rooms, looking upon each one more hopeless than the last.

Now that the ghost of Quentin had disappeared, Carolyn had a better grasp with reality. She tried to open the door again, but it was still locked, much to her disappointment. Carolyn had long lost any more energy to further assault the door, and so, she took a seat in front of it. She hoped that someone came looking for her here soon, but until then, she was completely helpless in her own house.

The light outside had went down more outside, and the only remaining lit candle in the room flickered, almost going out. "What could possibly go wrong now," she thought, just as her flashlight lost power. Without further hesitation, Carolyn began sobbing again, realizing that this could very well be a night spent in fear.

ELIZABETH STODDARD

Once again, Elizabeth thought that she heard a faint noise in the distance. She was positive that it was crying, and that it sounded so much like Carolyn. Elizabeth's heart began to beat faster as she rushed out of the room she was in, and hurried down the corridor. "Carolyn," she yelled, "Is that you?"

The crying got increasingly louder and closer, and Elizabeth became increasingly sure that it was in fact her daughter, and she was very close. Elizabeth stopped outside of door of which she was sure was the right one. "Carolyn, are you in there, Carolyn?" Elizabeth tried twisting the knob but realized that it was locked. Out of all the doors in here, why this one was locked puzzled her. "Carolyn?"

A familiar voice drifted into Carolyn's conscience, and she instinctively stopped her crying. "Mother," she said, in a shock. It was just then that the exact door Carolyn was sitting in front of was being tried to open. "Mother," Carolyn said, quickly leaping to her feet. Carolyn pulled at the doorknob simultaneously with her mother.

"I'm in here, mother." Carolyn grew increasingly anxious as she heard the jingle of keys on the other side of the door. The doors lock was opened, and the door swung open. Teary eyed as ever, Carolyn sprung out of the room and into the protective hold in her mothers arms, as she unleashed yet another round of uncontrollable tears.
