Questioning the Impossible (Vladimir/Mildred) Empty Questioning the Impossible (Vladimir/Mildred)

Spending a couple hours with Syerren, learning everything to what exactly happened to him to what he did during the day, Vladimir left the house after seeing him fast asleep on the couch. Staring out into the distance he could only figure one thing who would know anything about this: Mildred.

Approaching the Inn where he sensed her to be there, Vladimir tried hard to remain calm of the matter knowing Mildred’s ways all too well. Surprised to find her outside of the establishment as if waiting on someone, he approached her. “I need to speak with you. I have come across a problem Mildred that I . . . I feel you may know the answer to.”

"Just a wild guess, but might this have anything at all to do with that brother of yours?" Mildred questioned, with a grin. "If so, then I have nothing to tell you. I'm not saying either way if I did or didn't have anything to do with his fate; merely that I don't care to share any information with you Vladimir." Stepping away, she turned seeing Vladimir was following her. "However, if you came here for some other reason, then feel free to enlighten me as to what's on your mind. It is always a pleasure to have my night interrupted by your presence."

Rolling his eyes from her comment, Vladimir at first felt it would be impossible to get her to talk of his brother’s condition but then decided to go about it a different angle. “No, of course not.” Vlad spoke entering the room. “I’m happy for Syerren and his . . . well no matter and I could . . . care less.” Turning around facing Mildred, he crossed his arms, “I came to you on a matter . . . of Simon. He’s been acting peculiar the past nights I’ve seen him being with you and well as a mere concerning friend, I was curious as to why you went back to him after all the these years.”

"Probably for the same reason he ended up staying at the Old House with you and Syerren after all these years; because a person tends to like meeting back up with friends long past. Simon is a very sensible man with a strong head on his shoulders. He feels stressed and often time forgotten about lately. He has had a lot of fun with me these past few days and it has reminded him what it felt like to be single again. I'm not here to steal or take anything that isn't mine. However, I will not interfere with anyone who decides to choose being with me over another person. Now, you may think that you and your brother are my main concerns. Well, sadly you two are not. I could really care less what the two of you think about me and what you think I have done. Your brother is happy and that is what should matter to you. The same fate can come to you, though temporary, however at quite an expensive price."

“So it was you that made Syerren mortal,” Vladimir sneered as Mildred remained calm neither gesturing it was or wasn’t. “What did he do agree with you on something? Is there some deal he has with you that he’s refrained from telling me?”  Turning away facing the fireplace, he shook his head, “He’s lied to me but I know it was only to protect me. I only just found out this evening and that he has a a girl now fawning over.” Sighing deeply lowering his head and turned it slightly as he spoke deeply, “Just what kind of demon are you that has such power to cure a vampire?”

Feeling then Mildred’s hands around his arms, as she pulled him to look at a mirror, at first it just showed herself and then started to change.

"I never consider myself evil." She spoke, "Just look how happy you can be."

Vlad stood stunned gazing at the images of his mortal self with his family while wanting to only step through the mirror and live it.

Once the image faded back to emptiness, Vladimir turned away while listening to her left unsure what to do.  "I find this proposition more to diplomacy. Swapping for something that you want, for something that I want . That simple."

Standing still considering what it would take and then remembering about Syerren, Vlad then quickly grabbed her and looked deep in her eyes, “Fine, what is your price then to make me mortal.”

"Well lets see, there are two things I want," Mildred began. "First of all, you will have to do the first one in order for me to even consider changing you mortal, then the second one for me to actually complete the temporary transformation. Failure to commit to both of them and I will change your brother back into a vampire at any given time, perhaps even when he's enjoying a nice day at the beach with his new girl friend. So, are you still interested, or has the mighty Vladimir cowered out?"

As the terms were placed in front of him, Vladimir instantly had the thought of back out of the deal knowing only that it would be to ruin his relationship with Amy. Stopping near the door, he widened his eyes in shock by Mildred’s threat, “You wouldn’t dare harm Syerren; he’s done nothing to deserve that!” As she shrugged, Vlad was fixed to attack but refrained knowing his place. Placing his hand on his forehead, remembering the cherished moments his brother had during the day, he looked back to Mildred sticking out his hand. “Alright Mildred, you have a deal. What do I have to do?”

"Well the first order of business is that I would like to be welcomed into the Old House as a guest. I want a room, not a servants room, however, to stay in until I am finished in Collinsport. While I am at the Old House, I expect to be treated nicely and to have no cross marks from you, your brother, and especially that wife of yours. If you think you can manage to pull this off, then I will at that point consider telling you about the second thing I desire." Grinning, she then looked around. "So, shall I gather my things now?"

Listening to her request, Vladimir sighed deeply knowing this challenge wasn’t going to be an easy one and nodded. Watching as she was packed in less than a minute, Vladimir led the way out of the inn remaining transfixed on the idea that he was actually going to be mortal and freed from his father’s curse and traditions. Hearing Mildred laugh slightly behind him, he ignored it and fled from the street into the dark night.
