PART 10: Flashback At Eagle Hill (Julia/Kathryn/Harry)

Kathryn Collins had made plans for her day off but they'd fallen through. She didn't feel like staying in her cottage so she'd gone into Collinsport to have breakfast at the Inn. After chatting with Mr. Well's she went into the coffee shop, found a table and gave her order to Suzy. Dr. Julia Hoffman had come in and had told Kathryn she could come with her to Eagle Hill cemetery after they made a quick visit to Collinwood to check on Carolyn.
Julia had bought some flowers in town, they'd talked to Mrs. Stoddard and given Carolyn some fashion magazines and were now on their way to the cemetery.
Kathryn loved the cemetery but didn't like to go alone so she was more than pleased to be accompanying Dr. Hoffman, who was often to busy to socialize.
Julia doesn't seem to be in a hurry today, she thought. There'll be time to look around. Maybe I'll recognize some of the names I've been reading about in our research into the past.

Julia was glad to have Kathryn's company at Eagle Hill cemetery. She liked the young woman but usually didn't have much reason to spend time with her.

"Yes, I have time to look around the cemetery," she answered in response to Kathryn's question about her schedule. "First I want to spend a moment at Dr. Woodard's grave and put the flowers there and then we can look around."

She glanced quickly at Kathryn and said, "He was a wonderful man; it's a shame that you never got to meet him."

"I did meet him once, just before his death," Kathryn said. "He came into the antique shop with an unusual old doll. It looked to be in mint condition but was, in fact, very old. He seemed to be really agitated about it and wanted an appraisal; then he left."

The two women had reached the cemetery and began slowly making their way through the headstones. There were some familiar names and many named Collins.

"There doesn't seem to be any order here," Kathryn mentioned. "They're mixed up from all different times."

She noticed Julia moving toward Dave Woodard's grave and moved a bit away to give the doctor some time alone with her memories.

Harry had caught whiff of news that Julia and Kathryn Collins were meeting up somewhere, so he assumed it was involving the matter that he had purposely involved himself in. Beings how his mother was on his case about helping out around the house to help show his respects for having a roof over his head, Harry decided that he would rather slip away into the day, taking his mother's car keys, and following at a safe distance behind Julia and Kathryn.

He sat in the car as he watched the two women walk through the grave yard. Once Harry was sure they wouldn't notice him, he got out of his car, and followed behind them. The graves he passed by looked quite old and very fascinating; one such stone seemed to draw in his attention so much, that he completely forgot all other purposes for being at the grave yard as he knelt down and brushed off the front of it.

"Noah Gifford" was all he could make out, but from the age of the stone, knew it was at least a hundred years old, if not more.

As he was about to get up and continue following the women, an instant and sharp pain shot through his head, causing him to cringe in pain, and fall back to the ground on his knees. His vision began to black out, as he felt himself fall backwards onto the ground, losing consciousness.

It was then that he found himself in the graveyard, only it was night time. He was looking for someone; Julia? No, he was looking for another - he was to find another. A mausoleum stood ahead of him, which wasn't there before; this surely wasn't where he was before? In his hand he held a pistol and his clothing was different; had he completely lost all memory of what had happened before this exact moment?

As he took a step forward, the gate to the mausoleum opened, and out stepped Victoria Winters. "Victoria," he said, as she looked wide eyed at him. As he took another step towards her, noticing that she was hurt, she raised her gun at him. Horror ran through Harry's head, as his life flashed back into real time, he just could feel the bullet impacting him.

Kathryn had expected her imagination to be aroused in the gloomy cemetery; it's why she didn't like to be here alone. The sounds she heard didn't seem to be imaginary; she was hearing them with her ears.

It seems to be coming from over by the mausoleum, she thought. That voice sounds familiar; where have I heard it before?

Looking over at Dr. Hoffman, she noticed her looking in the direction of the mausoleum.

"Something's wrong over there and I've heard that voice before. Shouldn't we go look?"

Julia had just come out of a meditation for her old friend, Dr. Woodard. I regret how things turned out for you, she thought, but it can't be changed now and I sincerely hope you are at peace.

Then she heard the sounds of a man in distress and knew it was real. She was more aware of the people around her than they usually knew.
It sounds to me like Harry Johnson, she thought. I've heard that he's been snooping around, trying to learn people's vulnerabilties. I wonder what happened.

When Kathryn asked if they should go look, she nodded her head in agreement. "I have my medical bag in the car, if we should need it."
Hurrying in the direction of the mausoleum, they saw Harry Johnson on the ground. He looked very pale and as if he were in great pain but Julia couldn't figure out what could have happened to him.

"Harry, it's Dr. Hoffman. I'd like to help you if you can tell me what's wrong."

Coming to complete consciousness, Harry nervously started to scramble around on his back.

"Where'd she go; she shot me, where'd she go . . ." Harry stuttered, pulling himself up from the ground slightly. He looked around at Kathryn and Julia with a confused look on his face.

"What am I do here . . ."

Kathryn looked at Harry and couldn't see anything wrong. "You must have tripped and hit your head, I guess. No, don't get up yet. I don't know why you were saying someone shot you....there's no one here and you're not bleeding."

She watched as Julia checked him over a bit. "As for what are you doing here.....what are you doing here Harry? You don't really know anyone who's buried here, do you? You weren't following someone again, were you?"

Harry was still very confused, but at the same time becoming very annoyed at being questioned like this. He didn't know what to tell either of the women; a lie would be in order, no doubt.

He, however, couldn't convince himself that there wasn't a women just standing over at the mausoleum . . . how could he imagine that; it was so very real. Then again, he was dressed differently then, and had a gun, none of which he had now.

It was a semi-true the excuse Harry decided to use. "I really have no idea what I am doing here; I can't remember. For some reason I think I was looking for someone; you sure you didn't see anyone?"

Julia was concerned. She could see that Harry Johnson was basically alright, but something strange had surely happened that would eventually affect others at Collinwood.

He has no idea what kind of a place he's moved to, she thought. Anything can happen in Collinsport.

"Harry, don't try to figure out what happened right now; you've had a shock and we need to get you back to Collinwood. We didn't see anyone, but I believe that you did. I want you to stand up slowly. There's a blanket in my car and you need to keep warm and get some rest. I'll drive you back, and Kathryn can drive your mother's car, which I'm guessing is how you got here."

She looked at the grave that Harry had fallen on and saw the name "Noah Webster".

Hmmm...I recall Barnabas speaking of a Noah Webster from that time period. I wonder what Harry has stumbled into.

"Alright," Harry said, as he pulled himself off the ground carefully, head still spinning slightly. His eyes too crossed paths with the tombstone of Noah, which sent unexplainable chills up his spine. He couldn't figure out for the life of him what exactly had just occured, and hoped that Julia would be able to tell him; it felt a little weird to him to be depending on someone else for answers, but after the episode he just had, was willing to lower his guard a bit.

As the three of them drove off from the cemetery, Harry couldn't decide what was more frightening: what had just happened to him or what he would be telling his mother, when she found out that once again he had stolen her car; with all the information he now had on the Collins family, he couldn't bare the thoughts of being kicked out of the house . . . not yet anyway.
